At one point or another it has been an accepted fact amongst almost every culture around the world that there are invisible spirits responsible for many everyday ills.

History

First discovered by physicist James Clark Maxwell during the 1860’s. It’s believed that this strange offshoot of magical creatures was a parapsychological response to the industrial revolution taking place in the UK.

Although their discovery was originally ridiculed and later marginalised by mainstream parapsychologists, their continued growth in numbers and variety eventually resulted in recognition as a sub-field of cryptozoology.

Biology

Unlike the fairies found in most pre-industrial cultures, the modern western fairy is what is known as a Techno-Thaumaturgical Lifeform. This means they are formed of non-living technological components given life through a spark of magick.

Possibly because of their relatively recent begetting, it is rare to find a TTL much bigger than your fist. Although, as technology becomes more advanced and unknowable it is likely we will see larger breeds evolve.

Detection

Initial detection devices used beat frequency oscillation to detect the inherent magnetic field generated by all techno-thaumaturgical lifeforms. The process was unreliable and even advancements in magnetic detection did little to further research into the fairies.

Only with the discovery that polarised glass, set to the correct angle would allow the fairies to be seen and photographed.
